Artist at Large Monster Mike Welch
Rolling out of the Northeast like a runaway steamroller comes Blues guitar prodigy Monster Mike Welch. At the age of 13, Mike Welch opened the bill at the Cambridge House of Blues, then sharing a stage with Junior Wells, Joe Walsh, and actor Dan Aykroyd. It was Aykroyd who gave him his nickname, “Monster Mike.” Sharping his craft for over 25 years and since 2001 working with Sugar Ray & the Bluetones he has become one of the most respected Blues men in the Blues business. Welch is currently nominated with Sugar Ray & the Bluetones for the Blues Music Award for “Band of the Year” and personally for the Blues Music Award in the category of Instrumentalist – Guitarist. With Cool Cat appeal and a mild-mannered swagger, this veteran Bluesman ascends the stage with an unassuming demeanor, It’s when he strikes that first chord that the audiences are well aware they are in the presence of a true Guitar Monster named Mike Welch.
