Halo Rider feat. Anne Harris
Halo Rider (collaboration between Anne Harris & Markus James) is a kaleidoscope of deep grooves, atmospheric instrumental passages, harmonies, and poetic flashes in a musical terrain that ranges from acoustic old-time to amped up Hill Country to electrified trance blues-rock.
Chicago-based singer-songwriter and fiddle player Anne Harris has been crafting her unique sound over countless performances in the US and abroad. Her collaborations, live and in-studio, span a large and diverse group of artists, including Taj Mahal, Keb' Mo', Cracker, Living Colour, Anders Osborne, JP Soars, Marcella Simien, Vieux Farke Toure, Guy Davis, Jefferson Starship and a long time collaboration with multi-Blues Music Award winner, Otis Taylor. Her uniquely expressive performance style has made her an audience favorite, as a side person or as an artist in her own right, at numerous festivals and venues, including Telluride Blues Festival, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Chicago Blues Fest, Grand Ole Opry, Philadelphia Folk Fest, Summerfest, and North Sea Jazz, Roots & Roses, and Lucerne Blues Fest to name just a few.
Singer-songwriter Markus James recorded 5 critically-acclaimed albums of original Blues-based music with traditional musicians in Mali, West Africa. The award-winning documentary film about this collaboration, Timbuktoubab, was seen on many PBS and satellite stations around the US. Markus’ latest album, Head For The Hills, recorded in North Mississippi’s hill country featuring drummers Calvin Jackson and Kinney Kimbrough, received rave reviews and led to performances on Elwood’s House of Blues Radio Hour, Montreal International Jazz Festival and Telluride Blues Festival, among others. The instrumental track, On A Mississippi Porch, appears in the Oprah Winfrey film The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks.
